Ambush Party formed in the science labs of Oregon State University. The band was initially comprised of four graduate students all working towards their PhD’s in Physics. Andy Jameson and Joe Tomaino working in a cutting-edge optics lab and Denny Jackson and Landon Somebody doing some other geeky physics stuff. Named The BrainTrust, the band wrote many of the songs that would form the sound and direction to come.
After months of rehearsals and some demo recordings a last minute St. Patrick’s Day show was offered but both Denny and Landon had plans to be out of town that night. Wanting to seize the opportunity anyway Andy and Joe decided to recruit Joes brother Jesse to play with them as Snackbox. They played a set filled with Andys original songs and a few instrumental grooves the Tomaino brothers knew from growing up playing together.
That night laid the foundation for the Ambush Party, with a focus on the songs of Andy J. underlaid with a rhythm section that has been playing together for fifteen years. Denny Jackson seamlessly augmented the sound upon his return with his tasty brand of squeedles and textural, driving guitar. The boys have since spent their time out in the woodshed shaping the sound and songs of Ambush Party. A good time, funky, drink your face off and dance rock band that’s ready to make you laugh, cry, take a shot with them and stumble home with the chorus to that last song stuck in your head.
